Job Description (in maximum of 100 words) | We are seeking one (01) Junior Research Fellow for a research project aimed at creating a geospatial framework for land suitability information in the Indian Sundarban region, a vulnerable area facing threats from climate change. The study will focus on identifying environmentally sound livelihood options for the local population and reducing pressure on natural resources, while taking into account alternative practices and proposing new solutions. The candidate will extensively review current knowledge on saline soil agriculture and cash crop options, and will use Google Earth Engine API for mapping of private and government land parcels. The projects deliverables will be hosted in a WebGIS platform for public use. |
Essential Qualification | M. Tech. in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Geoinformatics OR M. Sc. in Environmental Science / Environmental Management / Geoinformatics with 60% or CGPA 6.0. The candidate must be NET (JRF/Asstt. Prof.)/GATE qualified. Selected candidate may be given opportunity to enroll for IIT (ISM) Dhanbad Ph. D Programme for the immediate next cycle (*subject to fulfillment of Ph. D admission requirements as per IIT (ISM) norms) |
Desirable Qualification | Advanced working knowledge and demonstrated experience of working with Remote Sensing data. Knowledge of handling GIS data in QGIS, or Google Earth Engine. Prior knowledge of programming in JavaScript or Python is a plus but not essential. The candidate should be keen to learn programming through the duration of the project. The project involves lots of interaction and filed work with local administration and inhabitants. Oral communication skill in local language is a plus but not essential. |
Age and Relaxation (if any) | The maximum age limit of the candidates is 30 years as on the last date of application (SC/ST/OBC/WOMEN/PWD candidates will get relaxation as per Govt. of India Rules). |
Fellowship | INR 31,000/ month (1st & 2nd year); INR 35,000/month (3rd year) (Consolidated). |
