NASA's Laser Communications rocket Demonstration NASA's Laser Communications rocket Demonstration

The Laser Communications Relay Demonstration is scheduled for liftoff on December 5

NASA’s first end-to-end laser relay system, sending and receiving data over invisible infrared lasers at a rate of approximately 1.2 gigabits per second from geosynchronous orbit to Earth.

The most powerful variant of the Atlas V rocket is ready for its longest flight in history to deliver two spacecraft into geosynchronous orbit for the U.S. Space Force.

It will reduce future space program risks by advancing combat capabilities in the areas of nuclear explosion detection, space domain awareness (SDA), weather and communications.
