Senior GIS Specialist

Job Description (Senior GIS Specialist):

Under the general direction of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Supervisor, the Senior GIS Specialist designs, analyzes, and maintains GIS applications and databases; performs general mapping and digital data development; trains personnel in GIS use; creates workflows to support remote and field personnel; and performs other related duties as required.

Distinguishing Features:

The incumbent is responsible for the installation and maintenance of hardware, software, and associated components of the GIS System; must be familiar with GIS operations, how they differ from other IS systems, and how differences affect system usage and administration. Due to the interdependencies between GIS and non-GIS computer hardware systems, coordination with administrators of non-GIS systems is critical.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

Designs, develops, and maintains GIS applications; trains GIS end-users and provides technical support for apps; resolves conflicting data, mapping, and connectivity issues through office or field investigation; fulfills spatial information and web mapping requests as needed.

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in GIS, Geography, or a related field and two years of experience developing and/or troubleshooting GIS applications using Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS, Geocortex Essentials, or similar software; GISP, ArcGIS Desktop Associate, or FME Certified Professional or equivalent experience while pursuing certification is preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of GIS application development using Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS, Geocortex Essentials or similar software; ability to manipulate data using both ArcGIS Desktop and FME Desktop; ability to create maps, publish map services, and produce other GIS products using Esri ArcGIS 10x; software packages including Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint, Access and other related applications; good written and oral communication skills; strong interpersonal skills to support internal customers at all levels from various departments within our organization.

Must possess a valid California driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.
