Job Description (Junior Research Fellow)

Junior Research Fellows to conduct research related to Nuclear Power in the Energy, Environment, and Climate Change Program (EECP) – Last date February 14, 2022

National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS) was conceived and founded in 1988 by the late Mr. J. R. D. Tata, who sought to create an institution to conduct advanced multidisciplinary research. Housed in a picturesque green campus in Bangalore the Institute serves as a forum to bring together individuals from diverse intellectual backgrounds, in the natural and life sciences, humanities, social sciences, and conflict and security studies. The philosophy underlying NIAS is given shape by its multidisciplinary research teams. NIAS has been recognized as an “Institute of Exceptional Repute” by the NITI Aayog in January 2019. The Institute is also recognized by several Universities. The Energy, Environment, and Climate Change Program (“EECP”) at NIAS is implementing a 2-year Research Project supported by the Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS) and is recruiting capable and enthusiastic researchers to evaluate potential sites for nuclear power plants in India. This study will have both field and desktop components.  

ELIGIBILITY

Masters’ degree in Geospatial Technologies/Remote Sensing, from a reputed Institution/University with a minimum of 60% marks or CGPA of 7.0 (10-point scale) at the undergraduate and graduate levels after successful completion of a bachelor’s degree in any branch of engineering from a reputed Institution/University. The degree certificates and certified GATE/UGC-NET/CSIR-NET scores in a relevant discipline must be emailed along with the application in one folder. Preference will be given to candidates who have prior experience in practical applications of remote sensing techniques. Candidates who are not having a GATE/UGC-NET/CSIR-NET score will be considered for the position of Project Associates in exceptional cases.

The selected Junior Research Fellow (JRF) will be entitled to a fellowship of Rs. 31,000 per month, while HRA will be reimbursed by BRNS directly to the Research Fellow (currently 24% of the basic fellowship amount) as per extant BRNS guidelines.  The fellowship amount for Project Associates will depend on their experience as follows:

The appointment(s) will be for an initial tenure of one (1) year extendable till December 2023 subject to annual performance assessment.

Short-listed candidates will be called for interviews (through Videoconference) on or before 28th February 2022.
